Welcome to Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki was founded in 316/315 BC takind her name of Alexander the Great's sister. The city was developed rapidly due to its prominent geographical location and became one of the most important ports, and economical and commercial centers of Macedonia and the Balkan Peninsula.

During the Byzantine era the city was further developed and becoming the second most important city of the empire after Constantinople itself. Wonderful churches and other buildings were built in several areas while extended defensive constructions took place.

During the Ottoman occupation period (after 1430 AD) the city maintained her strategic importance due to the trade routes established. It also became the new home for many ethnic communities (Sepharadites) that significantly promoted art, culture and architecture.

The city was liberated in 1912 during the first Balkan War. Today Thessaloniki is a modern European city, as always an important trade and transportation center connected to all the Balkan Countries. It is one of the largest student centers in South-Eastern Europe while many of its monuments have entered the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Practical Information

Detailed info are provided in this document

As announced on the last day of ANP2024, a Special Volume in the journal Applied Radiation and Isotopes has been planned for research papers related to the Conference Program. After some coordination with the Editors of ARI we are now pleased to announce the Special Volume, where you could submit your original research work for publication. All submitted papers will be handled by ARI and will be peer-reviewed according to the Rules and Conditions of the Journal. To prepare your article and submit it to the Special Volume please navigate to the dedicated website or look for the "VSI: ANP 2024"during submission process. The deadline of submission of your papers is set to February 3rd, 2025.

Besides the ARI Special Volume, we have also prepared a Special Proceedings volume in the HNPS Advances in Nuclear Physics (HNPS ANP). HNPS ANP is the official journal of the Hellenic Nuclear Physics Society, published by the Society at an annual cycle for over 30 years already. If you are not interested in submitting an original article at ARI, please consider submitting your work as a proceedings article, fully open-access and citable with a DOI.

For HNPS ANP manuscript preparation and submission instructions, see the website: https://eproceedings.epublishing.ekt.gr/index.php/hnps/about/submissions

Please be noted that HNPS ANP accepts articles prepared in MS Word only. You may download the template from this link.

All proceedings articles in HNPS ANP will be reviewed by at least one peer before editorial approval for publication. Please prepare your manuscript for a maximum length of 4 pages.

  • E.U. Citizens
A passport is not a compulsory requirement for European Union citizens traveling from or to Schengen countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Spain, and recently Bulgaria and Romania under certain conditions. If you are traveling from the latter two, please check what travel documents are required with your local authorities). There are no custom formalities.
  • Non E.U. Citizens
A valid passport is normally required for all non E.U. citizens traveling to Greece. Visa formalities may be required for visitors from certain countries.
  • Visa Information
EU Nationals do not need a visa to enter Greece, but a valid ID card or passport is required.
Non-EU nationals in general require a visa for stays in Greece. A visa is not required for semi-annual visits of up to three months for nationals of those countries for which the European Community has abolished the visa requirement. Nationals of countries which do not have a visa-waiver agreement with the European Community must obtain a visa. Detailed visa information is provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The list of different countries and the visa requirements can be found here: https://www.mfa.gr/en/visas/visas-for-foreigners-traveling-to-greece/countries-requiring-or-not-requiring-visa.html
